Flairty, Juergens Lead Chargers in Sweep of South Suburban

The Carl Sandburg College softball team dropped a pair of games to Waubonsee on Saturday but bounced back to sweep South Suburban on Sunday as the Chargers hosted a pair of weekend doubleheaders.

Sandburg Standout
Madison Benge (Stronghurst, Ill./West Central) went 2 for 4 with a double and an RBI in addition to striking out a career-high six batters.

Key Moment
After the Bulldogs tied the game at 2-2 in the top of the fifth, the Chargers answered with five runs in the bottom of the inning. Lizzie Malcolm (Moline, Ill./Alleman) singled in the go-ahead run, and Droste hit a two-run triple to left to cap the rally.

Sandburg Standout
Freshman Lexi Juergens (Pekin, Ill./Pekin) limited South Suburban to one earned run on eight hits as she went the distance for her second consecutive victory. Juergens struck out four and didn’t issue a walk.
